Calabasas resident Serge Rodnunsky, right, was born with the performance gene. At 16 he was already a competitive freestyle skier. All that fearlessness and flexibility caught the attention of a notable freestyle skiing coach, who suggested ballet classes to improve his skiing. Remarkably, only two years later at age 18, he was accepted into the American Ballet Theatre. Moving to New York City, Rodnunsky made his ballet entrance by leaping across the stage. While dancing under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov was thrilling, he still felt something was missing. He auditioned and became a regular dancer on the TV Show Fame with Debbie Allen for three years. He also traveled the world on the Fame promotional tour. But the theater was calling him again. Serge was cast as “Coricopat, the Twin Cat” and performed 800 shows in the hit Broadway show Cats. Continuing his creative drive, Serge turned his attention to film production. He wrote, produced, directed, and financed over 40 independent feature films. Rodnunsky’s father Albert was a symphony conductor. He encouraged his son to learn the piano. Despite his protests, Albert would not allow him to study the electric guitar in a classically-oriented musical family. Growing up with the great rock music of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, Rodnunsky longed to have his own band. That born-to-perform gene was still calling, so Serge taught himself electric guitar. He wrote original songs and continued to practice. Now he is back in his element performing. “Serge the Power” is rocking the Valley at The Roar Room, American Legion Newhall, American Legion San Fernando, VFW Northridge. The band was recently a finalist in the 2023 Blues Society Event in Santa Clarita. The band is a favorite at private parties and local events from Santa Barbara to LA.
